Express Consult

When you need to talk, there’s someone to listen!

We all have bad days and rough times when we could use some support or practical guidance or just need to hear a reassuring voice.

Now reaching a counselor is easier than ever. As part of our on-going efforts to improve access and convenience, Preferred EAP offers Express Consult, a dedicated support helpline.

If you need some coaching about a stressful situation, a pressing life challenge or simply have questions about our service, just call 610-433-8550.

Counselors are available workdays between 11 AM and 1 PM to take non-crisis calls. No appointment is necessary.

All calls are confidential and can be anonymous if you desire.

You can also send an email to preferredeap@lvh.com to request a phone call be made to you at a specific time between 9 AM and 4 PM, Monday through Friday. Every effort will be made to accommodate your request.

Please note that Express Consult is not meant to take the place of emergency services. If you are in immediate danger, please call 911 or go to the nearest hospital emergency room.

Have a conversation regarding:

  • For those days when you just need to hear a re-assuring, non-judgemental voice
  • Test before committing
  • Questions about eligibility or confidentiality
  • Get information about, or ask questions about services
  • Is counseling something you should be considering
  • Get support 
  • Provide information about available community resources  
  • Questions about staff qualifications

All calls are confidential and can be anonymous if you so desire

If you are not sure whether professional assistance is necessary or appropriate for the difficulties you are experiencing, you can call and speak with a staff member of Preferred EAP before you make an appointment. Remember that it is important to seek assistance early in the development of a problem. The sooner the problem is addressed, the greater the likelihood for a positive outcome.

Sometimes when we are struggling, it's hard to step back and get a clear look at how we are doing. Here are questions you can ask yourself to help you get a picture of what's going on with you. If you find that you are agreeing with some or many of these statements, you may want to visit your doctor to help you figure out what's going on.

Mental Health Meter

Assessing our mental health is not as simple to do as measuring our physical health. There are no scales or endurance tests that rate mental fitness. Just the “Blues” or Are You Depressed? (CESD-R Depression Scale)

The Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression (CESD) Scale questionnaire was developed in the 1970’s to detect clinical depression. It asks you to report the frequency with which each of twenty events was experienced during the previous week.

Anxiety & Depression Screening Tools

The Anxiety and Depression Association of America offers a number of screening tools to be taken online then printed and discussed with your health care provider. Wide ranging public education webinars are also available.

The free membership to MyFitnessPal provides tools for weight control, apps of exercise and activity monitoring and fitness blogs galore.

Survivors of Suicide Support Group

 

After losing a loved one to suicide, you may find yourself asking one question over and over again: “Why?”

It’s normal for such a question to arise as you cope with suicide loss. Now you have the opportunity to share your feelings about your loss. Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) will present a Survivors of Suicide Support Group on the first Tuesday of every month beginning May 2015.
